Obituary for Stanley Bezdzietny

Stanley Joseph Bezdzietny
December 23, 1943 - March 15, 2019

On March 15, 2019, Stan closed his eyes for the last time, surrounded by the love of his family. He loved his life and was amazingly strong until the end.

Stan’s story started on December 23, 1943 when he was born to Stella and Joseph Bezdzietny of Cooks Creek, Manitoba. He was the eldest of siblings to Betty, Eddy, Florence, Bernice and Ellie. There was a strong love between the siblings and a good time was guaranteed to be had whenever and wherever they met.

MJ proposed to Stan and they were married in July 1966. Together, they celebrated 52 years of life’s ups and downs, making memories, and sharing in much laughter and love. They raised two children, Kelly and Jodie, and Stan happily welcomed a second daughter when Kelly married Wanda. His love was felt strongly by all three of his children.

Stan loved his hometown of Cooks Creek and being part of the community. He enjoyed being out in his yard and walked those acres thousands of times during his 46 years in the family home. He could build or fix pretty much anything and showed love for his family and friends in this way. Crib was the game of choice in the Bezdzietny household and if you happened to be Stan’s partner you had to accept you weren’t playing to win; getting over the skunk line was all you needed to achieve. For 28 years Stan was a proud member of the group of engineers who kept the Winnipeg Convention Centre running smoothly. He could also be found countless Sundays in his pew at the back of St. Michael’s Church to live his faith. Stan was a good man who lived a good small-town life.

We are so thankful for the amazing medical care Stan received over the last several years. He absolutely adored Dr. Rimmer and Alexis RN at CancerCare Manitoba, as well as the Home Care Nurses from the Interlake Eastern RHA. We are also forever thankful for the doctors, nurses and health care aids in the Surgery 1 ward in Selkirk Regional Health Centre for the care and compassion shown to Stan and all of us in his final days.

Stan had a large and loving circle around him. Friends became like family and to him family was cherished. Stan will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, MaryJane; son Kelly (Wanda Taylor); and daughter Jodie; as well as his siblings Edward Bezdzietny (Marlene); Florence Bezdzietny Lucko (Garry); Bernice Bezdzietny Petrasko; and Eleanor Bezdzietny (Dave Dern). Pallbearers include nephews Clayton Petrasko and Michael Lucko; nieces Kristina Ernst and Belinda Herner; goddaughter Jamie Warywoda and friend Gerry Koreman. Honorary pallbearer is niece Ashley Petrasko. Also missing him will be Gail Warywoda and family; Edward and Roz Warywoda; Barb Stankewich; and his other daughters Holly Fjeldsted and Shannon Rogalski. Stan is now reunited with his parents Joseph and Stella; sister Elizabeth Ernst; brother in-law Larry Petrasko; Paul Warywoda and so many more loved ones. We know they are having quite the party.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Michael’s Church in Cooks Creek, Manitoba (68152 Hwy 212) with Father Omali officiating.

In lieu of flowers, we know Stan would rather support his community. Donations can be made in his name to the Cooks Creek Community Centre – Box 89, Group 23 RR#2 Dugald, Manitoba R0E 0K0.

When you think of Stan Bezdzietny you think of pure kindness. He exemplified gratitude and his gentle smile and modest nature stole the hearts of many. Because of this he felt great love around him.

No one wanted to say goodbye to you, Dad, but you are strong once again and able to return to all of the jobs you have on your list. You are a part of us that we will cherish, always, and we are better because we knew you.
